Foldable and Dual-screen Laptops on the Go
Foldable and Dual-screen Laptops on the Go
We can’t resist a good supersize option, can we? But let’s be honest, that mentality doesn’t exactly translate well to laptops. Stuck hunching over that tiny screen on a plane or in a coffee shop after getting spoiled with giant monitors at home during the pandemic? No thanks.
Well, good news! Laptop makers are feeling our pain and coming up with some pretty cool solutions to bring some of that extra screen space back with us when we hit the coffee shop or airplane.
There are three main options on the table right now: foldables, dual-screens, and piggybacking your tablet onto your laptop.
Foldable Laptops
First up, there are these foldable laptops. Imagine unfolding your laptop and BAM, you’ve got a giant 16-inch screen – pretty cool, right? That’s what the Lenovo X1 Fold is like, and the price starts at $2,299.08.
It’s the lightest of the bunch, at just under 3 pounds, but it does come with a bit of a learning curve. You gotta get the hang of the stand that unfolds with it, and the keyboard situation is a two-parter.
The downside? The unfolded screen is actually the smallest of the bunch, even a little smaller than a regular tablet. So, while it’s awesome for checking emails or browsing, it can feel cramped if you’re trying to juggle a bunch of windows at once.
But hey, if you want the ultimate conversation starter, this is the laptop for you. Everyone will be asking what that futuristic thing in your bag is!
Dual Screens
The Asus Zenbook Duo is another option, and its price starts at $1,499.99. This one looks like a regular laptop, but when you open it up, there’s a whole second screen chillin’ underneath! It’s a lot of screen real estate, which can be great for multitasking.
The keyboard is cleverly designed to fit between the screens when you’re not using it, but that also makes the whole thing a bit thicker than a regular laptop.
The downside here is the hinge between the screens. It’s not super smooth, so you can’t just drag windows across it like you can with the foldable. But, if you like having a bunch of stuff open at once, side-by-side, this can be a good option.
Teaming Up With Your Tablet
Samsung has a different take on this whole thing. Their new Galaxy Book laptops can actually use Samsung tablets as a second screen. This is pretty cool because it can be a lot more compact than carrying around a whole extra laptop screen. Plus, if you already own a Samsung tablet, you’re good to go!
So, What’s the Right Choice for You?
Honestly, it depends on your needs and what you’re willing to spend. If you travel a lot and want the absolute biggest screen you can get, the foldable might be worth the extra cash. If you like having a lot of screen space to spread out on but don’t want to lug around a whole extra device, the dual-screen could be a good fit.
And if you already have a Samsung tablet and want a budget-friendly option, a Galaxy Book laptop with a second-screen feature is a great choice.
No matter what you choose, it’s exciting to see that there are finally some good solutions for people who want to ditch the big desk monitor but still have plenty of screen space to work with on the go.
